High In Plain Sight: Current Youth Drug and Alcohol Trends Training

Staff Report

Members of the community who work with youth or drug related issues are invited to take advantage of a special training opportunity brought to you by the Coalition collaborators at Santa Fe Prevention Alliance.

This workshop is for law enforcement, probation officers, school administration, treatment providers and counselors. This session is unique, in that it provides over 120 visual aids for attendees to hold and become familiar with. In today’s culture, everything is person-specific and has different meanings to different individuals. For each person to help prevent youth and adult substance abuse, you MUST know what is going on in your community.

Topics cover new trends in drugs and alcohol, including:

  • alcohol and drug clothing,
  • alcoholic energy drinks,
  • alcopops,
  • alcohol and drug concealment methods and containers,
  • drug paraphernalia,
  • drug related music and groups, logos, stickers,
  • new technology,
  • youth party tendencies, party games,
  • non-traditional alcoholic beverages,
  • social networking sites,
  • synthetic drugs,
  • OTC drugs,
  • inhalants,
  • concentrates, opiates,
  • E-cigarettes, and popular party drugs.

These new trends are very popular, and it is important for all who are involved in prevention, education, treatment or enforcement to understand these sweeping changes in our youth drug culture.

It is a wonderful opportunity for those working with youth, or are in the school sector, organizations that work with substance abuse or youth-serving organizations.  The registration is attached so please register beforehand. This is a great opportunity to build our capacity and raise our awareness.
