Heinrich To Tour Center Of Recreational Excellence In Hobbs; Speak At WIPP 20th Anniversary Celebration

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – On Tuesday, April 23, U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) will tour the Center Of Recreational Excellence (CORE) in Hobbs and attend the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) 20th Anniversary Celebration in Carlsbad.

At 12 p.m., Senator Heinrich will tour the CORE facility with Hobbs Mayor Sam Cobb, Parks & Recreation Director Doug McDaniel, and CORE Director Catherine Vorrasi. CORE is a state-of-the-art facility designed to help enhance the quality of life, provide economic development, and improve the health of area residents.

At 5:30 p.m., Senator Heinrich will deliver remarks at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) 20th Anniversary Celebration at the Pecos River Conference Center. Heinrich has been a strong proponent of a safe and fully operational WIPP for the nation and for the people of Carlsbad. He helped secure increased funding for WIPP in the FY19 National Defense Authorization Act.
