Head-On Crash results in fatality
The Rio Arriba Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a male has succumbed to injuries resulting a crash between a motorcycle and passenger vehicle Monday Morning.
On Monday September 17, 2018, shortly before 9 a.m., Rio Arriba Regional Dispatch received several calls reporting a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger car near the intersection of US Hwy 84 and US Hwy 285.
As Deputies arrived it was confirmed that the victim had succumbed as a result of injuries sustained after the motorcycle he was driving was struck head-on by a late model Honda two door vehicle which south bound on US Highway 84. During the course of the investigation it appears that the passenger car was south bound on US Hwy 84 when, for a yet to be determined reason, it crossed the center line into the north bound lane where the collision occurred with the north bound motorcycle. The driver of the Honda also sustained major injuries and was airlifted to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Santa Fe. At the writing of this release, the driver had just gone through emergency surgery.
Neither drivers’ names have not been released pending notification of immediate family.
US Hwy 84 remained closed for a majority of the morning, members of the Abiquiu and Agua Sana Volunteer Fire Departments assisted with traffic control diverting traffic around the scene until the investigation was complete.
At this time there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash. At this time there have been no charges in reference to the crash however this is an ongoing investigation.
