On Saturday, Nov. 7, the 13th Annual Lord of Miracles Tour in Honor of Guru Ram Das was hosted for the first time ever in Española, New Mexico, which was also livestreamed to several countries. Residents from Española, Taos, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, Albuquerque and surrounding areas participated in BREATHE: Discovering Your Joy and Vitality event which was led by Singh Sahib Gurubachan Singh Khalsa and members of the Española Sihk community at the Plaza de Española. The free two hour event focused on the teaching and sharing of three simple nondenominational meditation and breathing techniques based on Kunadlini Yoga. BREATHE was founded by S.S. Gurubachan Singh Khalsa, to honor the legacy of his teacher, Kundalini Yoga Master, Yogi Bhajan.

In anticipation and excitement for the event, the Sihk Dharma flag was permanently erected in the Española Plaza by the City of Española, a gesture uniting cultures. Photo courtesy of Gurumustuk Singh Khalsa.

The event began with the debut song based on a beautiful poem written by the late Yogi Bhajan, titled, “Española City of Love” (Read below for full lyrics to the song):

According to representatives from the Sihk community, Singh Sahib Gurubachan Singh Khalsa noted that Yogi Bhajan could have chosen anywhere in the world to live, but he loved Española so much that he chose to call this beautiful place his home.

For those who have not been to Española’s Mision y Convento, the art and the ambiance are considered breathtaking. Many attendees call the Convento a beautiful gem of Española and said the location could not have been better for such an event.

During the event, three breathing and meditation techniques were taught that focused on stress relief, clearing emotions of the past, and breathing for energy, health, radiance and joy. SS provided guidance on proper posture, hand position and eyes, including a breathing demonstration for each technique. Each meditation lasted 11 minutes long and were practiced with soothing music in the background. Singh Sahib Gurubachan Singh Khalsa worked to inspire participants throughout the meditations and encouraged all to focus on their breathing and rid their minds from emotional stress. The event concluded with Questions and Answers and a complimentary dinner catered by JoAnn’s restaurant of Española.

“It was an amazing transformative experience!” said one participant. She continued “Breathe was created to inspire and uplift humanity through simple meditations and breathing that invigorate the body, quiet the mind, and cultivate pure joy and vitality within— for me, it did exactly that. I left home feeling completely at ease and invigorated. We are blessed to have the Sihk in our community. I’m inspired to continue my daily meditations and will be forever grateful.”

Lyrics for “Española City of Love” by the late Yogi Bhajan:

Leaves Changing

Color changing

Color in wide range-

Cottonwood trees golden yellow

Standing tall as if friendly fellows,

Golden marigolds fading

To frosted morning air.

Beautiful blue sky, star laden

A bright star falling

Falling

Falling

Cold announcing fall is in

Winter settling in

Crystal air moving white

Silent heavenly snow falling

Covering all

Majestic mountain peaks so tall.

Home of our Guru

Warm and cozy,

The fire reflecting

Rosaries repeating

The ancient formulate

Of infinite longing

Calling

Repeating

Meditating on God’s name

Home of our Guru

Warm and cozy,

The fire reflecting

Rosaries repeating

The ancient formulate

Of infinite longing

Calling

Repeating

Meditating on God’s name

Essence of the heart’s beat

Española, city of Love

Peaceful, graceful

Vision of the white dove.

The 4 seasons woven

With crystal blue sky

Star laced Nights

Land of Enchantment

Glistens with God’s light.

Within this sanctuary

I have built my dome

Great – Great is Española

God’s real home.
