Ghost Ranch Hosts Cultural Honoring Day

You Are Invited to Cultural Honoring Day at Ghost Ranch Saturday, Jan. 12. The event is free and open to the public.

Join Ghost Ranch January term students for a day of cultural honoring and celebration. Learn about and practice making regional food favorites in the traditional ways while listening to local musical artist Cipriano Vigil.

Begin by working with the horno (traditional adobe wood-burning oven) and bread dough at 7 a.m. in the dining hall. Baking begins around 9 a.m. Friends from Jemez Pueblo will guide the learning and baking.

At 10 a.m., choose one of two stations in the dining hall: The Art of Tortilla Making or Making Biscochitos, the official New Mexico State Cookie.

At 10:30 a.m., Cipriano Vigil and his children share their northern New Mexico music.

A lunch of posole and tamales is provided from 12 – 1 p.m. in the dining hall.

Following lunch, the Lightning Boy Hoop Dancers will perform in the field (Convocation Hall if weather is poor).
