Gas Leak Forces EVHS To Cancel Classes Tuesday
Classes have been cancelled for Tuesday, Feb. 23 at Espanola Valley High School. Late morning Monday staff and students reported smelling gas in the main building triggering an evacuation of all students from the school.
Most students were bused to Carlos Vigil Middle School where they were housed in the cafeteria until being returned to the EVHS campus to collect their belongings before being released or bused home. Students that left campus may return until 5 p.m. today to collect their belongings.
Superintendent Bobbie Gutierrez reported Monday afternoon that the Gas Co. of NM red-tagged the facility Monday afternoon after determining a small outside gas leak, not associated with today’s report of the smell of gas inside the building.
Superintendent Gutierrez stated that the district hopes to be able to resume classes on Wednesday, Feb 24 at the normal time.
