Free Private Well Testing At Ghost Ranch Saturday
The New Mexico Environment Department and the New Mexico Department of Health have partnered with Ghost Ranch | Education & Retreat Center to offer up to 200 free water tests for private wells. Bring samples to the Ghost Ranch museum classroom, 280 Private Drive 1708 Highway, US-84, Abiquiu, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, May 11.
Tests include electrical conductivity, sulfate pH, nitrate, fluoride, arsenic and iron.
How to collect water sample:
- Fill a clean glass or plastic container without any strong odors, with at least a quart or a liter (i.e. 32 OZ) of your well water.
- If the home has a whole house filtration system, collect the water at the well head prior to any filtration or softener systems if possible.
- Let the water run 2-3 minutes before collecting the sample.
- Fill the container with water as close to the time of testing as possible.
At the event, we will be collecting information about your well (i.e. well construction information).
All information is voluntary.
