New Mexico State University’s Sustainable Agriculture Science Center at Alcalde will host its annual fruit-tree-pruning workshop from 1:30 to 4 p.m., Thursday, March 10. The center is located at 371 County Road 40 in Alcalde. “We will have presentations on pruning basics, common training systems and some new development for each species,” said Shengrui Yao, NMSU Extension fruit specialist. “After that, there will be a hands-on session in the field.” The tree species will include apples, peaches, cherries, apricots, plums and blackberries. “Home gardeners, small-acreage farmers and commercial fruit growers are all welcome to attend this event,” Yao said. “However, this workshop is limited to 35 participants.”
