Former Española Resident Brian Wingard Earns Master Of Music Degree In Jazz Studies From The University Of New Orleans

Former Española resident Brian Wingard recently earned his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of New Orleans.

While remaining active as a tenor saxophonist on the New Orleans jazz scene, Wingard maintained a 4.0 grade point average, earning lifelong induction to both Golden Key and Omicron Delta Kappa honor societies. Meanwhile, he won the campus wide Ernest and Shirley Svenson Jazz Composition competition, and received the Coca-Cola service scholarship, and represented UNO at the New York City ASCAP awards, where he received the Louis Armstrong/ASCAP scholarship for jazz composition.

For six years, Wingard taught Española Valley High School music classes and led the Española Valley Children’s Choir, while contributing to the Santa Fe and Albuquerque jazz scene; Wingard now seeks to teach at the university level.
