Hidalgo County, NM – On August 30, 2020, at about 1:30 p.m. the New Mexico State Police, responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 10 near the New Mexico and Arizona border.
The initial investigation indicates a 2005 Isuzu SUV was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when for reasons still under investigation the vehicle left the roadway and rolled. Adela Murrel Mearig (56) of El Paso, TX was the rear seat passenger in the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries in the crash. She was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator.
A fifty-seven-year-old El Paso female was in the front passenger seat. She was airlifted from the scene for her injuries. Her current condition is not known. The fifty-seven-year-old El Paso male driver was uninjured.
Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and seatbelts were properly utilized. This crash is under investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
