San Miguel County, NM – On December 15, 2019 at about 4:45 p.m. the New Mexico State Police investigated a fatal crash on Interstate 25 around mile post 360, north of Las Vegas, NM.
The initial investigation indicates a 2000 Chevy pickup truck with a camper shell was traveling north on Interstate 25, for reasons still under investigation the Chevy left the roadway and rolled. Victor Garcia Jr (26) of Las Cruces was riding in the bed of the pickup on a mattress. He was ejected from the pickup bed, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
There was a total of six people in the truck listed below,
Driver: Male (48), El Paso, TX, injured
Passenger 1: Male (64), Las Cruces, NM, uninjured
Passenger 2: Male (53), Las Cruces, NM, injured
Passenger 3: Female (54), El Paso, TX, injured
Passenger 4: Male (18), El Paso, TX, injured
Passenger 5: Victor Garcia, Jr (26), Las Cruces, NM, deceased
The identity of the driver and remaining passengers will not be released at this time. New Mexico State Police does not immediately identify survivors involved in crashes, their injuries or the hospitals where they were taken.
Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash. The driver and passengers in the cab of the truck were all wearing seatbelts. The crash is still under investigation by the New Mexico State Police with no additional information available at this time.
