EVHS Football Program Honored By State House
The New Mexico legislature took time on Wednesday, Feb 10 to honor the Española Valley High School Sundevil football team for their outstanding performance in the 2015 season.
Representative Debbie Rodella sponsored a house certificate honoring the 2015 Sundevils football team, Head Coach Miguel Medina and all the assistant coaches for achieving a school record 9-1 regular season, becoming district champions, and for going to the first round of the state tournament.
Representative Moe Maestas of Albuquerque spoke to the student athletes during the ceremony saying, “what you did was more than win games, you reset the narrative of what kind of football program Española has.” Representative Rodella added to that saying “We are very proud of what you boys did for our community this year, and we look forward to seeing you bring home the blue trophy next year.”
Several proud parents sat in the house gallery as the Española football team was presented on the floor of the New Mexico house including Rio Arriba County Sherriff James Lujan who was there to support his son Brandon Lujan.
When asked to pose for a photo after the ceremony, Head Coach Miguel Medina made sure to bring in several of his players, specifically focusing on honoring the seniors for their accomplishments.
