Española Special Olympics Team Attending Area Track & Field Meet This Saturday

From a Press Release

The Española Special Olympics is a non-profit organization helping school-aged children in the Española Valley train and compete in the Special Olympics New Mexico. Special Olympics New Mexico provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

As the Española team prepares for the Summer Games, they will be competing on April 25 for the Area 2 Meet and May 30 for the State Competition.

Our athletes work hard every year and have met milestones some thought would be difficult to achieve. The Area 2 Meet will be at Los Alamos High this year with participation of athletes from Española, Taos, Santa Fe, Los Alamos, and Peñasco.

All are encouraged to attend this weekend’s track and field meet in Los Alamos and celebrate with the athletes. Visit the team’s Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/events/984060258290134/ for more information.
