Española Runner Qualifies For 2015 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships

Española Runner Qualifies For 2015 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships

Española native Zachary Montoya travelled to Albuquerque Saturday, Nov. 21 to run in the 2015 USA Track & Field Regional Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships. Zachary ran Unattached and placed first in the Region 16, Men’s 17-18 Age Division. He will now proceed to the 2015 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships being held December 12, 2015, which will also be held at Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Park. Last year Zachary competed Unattached in the 2014 USATF Regionals in Flag Staff, AZ, and the 2014 Nationals in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Zachary began running four years ago, and has since run and placed in several 5K and 10K races, including half marathons. Some of the races he has run are the Pojoaque Butterfly Run, Buffalo Thunder Run, Santa Fe Run Around, and Corrida de Los Locos, just to name a few. He has also received first place medals and awards in the Taos Half Marathon and the Rio Grande Half Marathon in his age division. Zachary is a Senior at Española Valley High School where he also ran with the Sundevil’s Cross Country team. Zachary plans to attend Adam’s State University where he plans to run with the Grizzlies’ Cross Country team.
