Española Opera Guild Hosts Annual Wine & Cheese Event June 6
ESPAÑOLA – The Española Valley Opera Guild (EVOG) will host “Opera, Wine and Cheese” Saturday, June 6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Misión y Convento on the Española Plaza. The public is invited, and all ages are welcome.
This will be the third annual “Opera, Wine and Cheese” event hosted each summer by the Guild. Once again, Black Mesa Winery is providing their fine New Mexico wine for the event. In addition to wine, attendees will enjoy homemade desserts and a selection of light hors d’oeuvres.
This year the musical performance will star two Santa Fe Opera apprentices who will have just arrived to begin their work and training for the 2015 season. The Santa Fe Opera’s Apprentice Program for Singers is internationally recognized as one of the finest programs of its type. This year 42 apprentice singers were chosen from over 1,000 applicants. Each year, those who are selected participate in a rigorous program of training and performances, which includes supporting roles in main stage operas, starring in two evenings of apprentice scenes, vocal coaching, auditions and many other activities.
“We are thrilled and honored to be able to bring not just one, but two of these talented artists to perform for the Española Valley” says Guild Co-president Dominic Roybal.
Tickets can be purchased at the door. Tickets are $15 each and include up to two glasses of wine. Guild members and attendees under 21 can purchase tickets for $8 per person. Guests can join the Guild at the door. EVOG will also sponsor a raffle drawing featuring art donated by New Mexico artists David Trujillo, Marc Hudson and Dominic Roybal and jewelry by Julia Honaberger.
The Española Valley Opera Guild is one of six community based guilds which operate on a volunteer basis under the direction of Guilds, Inc., a 501c3 nonprofit organization. The six guilds work together to support the Santa Fe Opera’s Community Outreach and Development Programs. Each guild finds way to bring the beauty of opera to its community as well as to provide the opportunity for New Mexicans, particularly youth, to experience the wonders and magic of the Santa Fe Opera.
