Española Sweeps Farmington: Advances In State Championship Playoffs

ESPAÑOLA — Española Valley High School’s baseball team swept Farmington in the first round of the State Championship on Friday and Saturday.  Friday the Sundevils defeated the Scorpions 3-1 and on Saturday morning they came back at did it again with a score of 5-3.

The Sundevils now advance to the second round, 10 a.m. Thursday, May 14 at Cleveland High School in Albuquerque, where they will face off against rival HIlltoppers from Los Alamos High School. Española and Los Alamos have faced off twice earlier this season with Española shutting them out 4-0 the first time they met and Los Alamos defeating Española in a hard fought double header the second time the played.  

Following Saturday’s game, Sundevils’ coach Anthony Alarid said “Today’s game was a total team effort. Three pitchers combined for the win. We did have a few miscues but overall we ended up with the win. I think we are playing pretty good baseball, putting wood on the ball and defensive errors are minimized. I think we are peaking at the right time.”
