Drunk Driver Arrested For 10th DWI
ESPANOLA― Around 8:30 p.m., April 26 a New Mexico State Police officer stopped a vehicle for multiple traffic violations on State Road 74 in Chamita.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Max Padilla, 38, of Espanola, emitted a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and exhibited numerous signs of impairment. Padilla admitted to the officer that prior to the stop he consumed vodka and had ingested heroin.
The officer conducted sobriety tests and Padilla displayed additional signs of impairment, indicating he was unable to safely drive a vehicle. The officer arrested Padilla for DWI, and later learned this arrest was Padilla’s 10th DWI arrest.
Padilla blew .15 on a breath test, nearly twice the legal alcohol limit. He also was driving while his license was revoked as a result of his previous DWI arrests. He was booked into the Rio Arriba County Detention Center on charges of felony DWI, driving while license is revoked, and several traffic offenses.
