The Valley Daily Post, in cooperation with EVHS Athletics and our sponsor, Desert Sun Motors of Espanola, is proud to presents the EVHS Athlete of the Week.

This week, Española Valley High School senior Antoin Curtis is the Desert Sun Motor Sundevils Athlete of the Week. The Valley Daily Post supplied Curtis with a questionnaire and below are his answers.


What do you hope to get out of competing in Track & Field in High School?
I plan on continuing to work hard in hopes of earning a scholarship. I also want to compete at the collegiate level.


What is your favorite subject in school?
English


Where do you hope to attend college and what do you want to study?
My first choice is Adam’s State University. I plan on focusing my studies in the area of performing arts.


Coach questionWhat makes this athletic stand out?
First, Antoin Curtis is dependable, trustworthy and team oriented individual. Arriving early, he participated fully in our training and is always prepared for each practice.

Second, Antoin is a goal-oriented achiever. He sets forth plans for success and implements his plans with hard work and dedication. His hard work has produced success. Please see the list below which showcases his past and current accomplishments:

2015:

  • 32’2” – Triple Jump – Dulce Invitational – 9th Place (First triple jump competition) 39’7” – Triple Jump – District2-AAAAA Championships – 3rd Place

2016:

  • 21’2” – Long Jump – District2-AAAAA Championships – 1st Place 41’8” – Triple Jump – District2-AAAAA Championships – 1st Place
  • EVHS Triple Jump School Record

2017:

  • Currently undefeated in both the long jump and triple jump
Bernalillo Invitational, Farmington Invitational, Los Alamos Invitational 
  • Ranked 1st in 5A and 2nd among all classes in the State of New Mexico in triple jump 
  • Qualified for the state competition in two events: 
o Long Jump – 21’2” (Los Alamos Invitational on 3-23-17) Triple Jump – 44’5” (Bernalillo Invitational on 3-4-17) 
 New EVHS Triple Jump School Record Mr. Antoin Curtis’ hard work and dedication to his craft is exemplified through his continued success. It is our goal to bring a State Championship back to the great Española Valley!
