Cybersecurity Incident May Threaten LANL Workers and Subcontractors
LOS ALAMOS – On Thursday afternoon all Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) employees were notified by the Lab of a cybersecurity incident that could put LANL employees and subcontractors personal information at risk.
The U.S. Department of Energy has notified LANL management that U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) systems and data containing personal information were involved in the breach of security. The breadth of exposure is still being evaluated, and there is a possibility that DOE contractors, including Laboratory personnel, could be affected.
The source of the compromise was not a LANL data system. Until there is more information LANL urges all employees and subcontractor employees to remain vigilant and protect against identity theft by monitoring all bank and credit card accounts, protecting passwords and carefully monitoring emails.
