Chamber Names New Executive Director

Española Valley Chamber of Commerce Board President, Ricky Serna had some big news to share with Chamber members and the Valley Daily Post is excited to officially announce that co-founder, Eric Vasquez has officially accepted the position of Executive Director of the Chamber. 

Along with years of regional planning and small business development, Vasquez has found himself in a unique position to not only help recruit and retain businesses in the Española Valley but his direct involvement with the Valley Daily Post will allow him to continue to promote local businesses throughout the region.

“This is an exciting time for the Española Valley and as a new small business owner in Española, I am honored for having the opportunity to ensure we continue to help our local businesses and encourage new growth. The Valley Daily Post has proven to be a welcomed and essential tool for encouraging our community to get involved, pay attention, and buy local. I look forward to working with Chamber members and the board on ways we can move Española forward,” noted Vasquez,

Below is Serna’s letter to Chamber members.

On behalf of the Española Valley Chamber of Commerce Board, it is my pleasure to announce that Eric Vasquez has been named the Chamber’s new Executive Director. Mr. Vasquez, who will officially assume the role on August 10th, replaces Kelly Duran who became the City Manager earlier this year.

Eric has extensive experience in economic development and small business assistance at the state level and in a policy making level. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations and a Bachelor’s Degree in Government.

Vasquez’s economic development experience includes work as the Senior Policy Director for the Office of Lt. Governor in New Mexico (2006-2010) where he oversaw the development of statewide strategic small business economic development plans.  In collaboration with community leaders, he developed business and retention and expansion support services, was a key negotiator in the development of regulatory reform for the mortgage brokers industry, helped design and implemented a financial tracking system to track government contract within New Mexico, and led legislative efforts to fund a small business funding mechanisms including equity investment funds and microloan programs for the smallest businesses.

He has designed and managed major economic development programs, and served on project teams that have responsibly delivered over several million dollars in community improvement projects and small business assistance and financing during his career.

In addition, Vasquez cofounded a consulting firm which worked to support businesses seeking to locate in New Mexico, and more recently cofounded a newspaper in the Española Valley.

The Board is confident that Eric can help lead the Chamber’s growth and contribute to the Valley’s economic vitality. Please join me in welcoming Mr. Vasquez.
