ESPAÑOLA – The area near the “Big Box” stores of Lowes and Wal Mart is seeing a building boom in recent days. A Dollar Tree is being built at the site of the old Red’s Bar and Lounge property, while a new McDonald’s is under construction a little further south on the opposite side of the street next to Auto Zone. During a recent Española Planning Commission meeting it was reported that the new McDonalds will be the largest in the state.

Also coming soon to the area as approved by the Española Planning Commission is a Steak & Shake restaurant. The city is looking forward to increased gross receipts tax (GRT) revenues when the businesses open.

Here are some photos of the  DOLLAR TREE  and McDonald’s construction sites.

Earth excavated from the DOLLAR TREE construction creates an optical illusion making the pile look like many hills found in the Espanola Valley. Photo taken from Wal-Mart parking lot facing north.

The new McDonald’s under construction next to AutoZone and across Lowe’s Home Improvement Center & Wal-Mart.
