B&G Club Hosting Los Vecinos Dinner Thursday
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Fe/Del Norte provide after-school and summer programs that teach leadership skills and advance educational opportunities to over 2,500 youth in our community. Services are provided in a safe and friendly environment and through programs such as Power Hour, Project Learn and Triple Play, youth are exposed to a variety of activities that both challenge them and teach them important and critical life skills to help them become successful adults.
Founded in 1939, the former Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Fe paved the way for many area Clubs to open and succeed as a viable alternative to a latch key situation. The impact of this success resulted in the 2011 merger of Santa Fe and Rio Arriba County Clubs, creating a northern regional organization with much potential for growth. Now known as the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Fe/Del Norte, Mr. Roman “Tiger” Abeyta, Executive Director/CPO, recalls the early years of the merger. “Working closely with our National Affiliate and two separate board of directors, we were all excited about the prospect of a regional Club. We now have eight club sites and constantly get requests to expand. Through grants, donor donations and fundraising activities, we are able to keep our doors open for youth aged 5 to 18.”
Since 2011, the Santa Fe/Del Norte Clubs have been busy caring out its mission to enable all young people, especially those who need them most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Participants, or Club members, can enjoy after school activities five days a week and summer programs generally run for eight weeks, a big help to working parents. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Fe/ Del Norte sponsors several fundraising activities each year, which includes the Annual July 4th Fireworks show in Santa Fe, the Annual Isaac Jaramillo Memorial Golf Tournament, and the Annual Los Vecinos Dinner which will be held this month at the Chimayo Elementary School Gym on February 23, 2017.
