While Escalante High School continues to roll, defeating Pojoaque Valley High School 55-0 Sept. 15 in Tierra Amarilla to improve to 4-0 on the season, other local high schools struggled last week.
McCurdy Charter School is still looking for its first win of the season after losing to Tularosa High School 48-6 Sept. 16 at McCurdy. The game started well for the Bobcats, who took the opening kickoff and scored on their first drive of the game. Ernesto Martinez scored on a 30-yard run to give McCurdy a 6-0 lead.

It was all Tularosa after that. The Wildcats scored 48 unanswered points to lead 48-6 at halftime. Tularosa emptied its bench in the second half and neither team scored. The Bobcats fell to 0-4 on the season and host defending Class 2A state champion Lordsburg High School Saturday (9/23) at McCurdy.

Espanola Valley High School traveled to Moriarty High School Sept. 15 and received a rude welcome. The Fighting Pintos showed no mercy on the Sundevils, taking a 62-7. Moriarty led 36-0 at halftime and 49-0 after three quarters.
Espanola managed to score in the fourth quarter to avert the shutout. Moriarty added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to end the game under 50-point mercy rule. Espanola fell to 2-2 on the season. The Sundevils travel to Miyamura High School Friday (9/22) to face the Patriots. Miyamura defeated Capital High School 44-14 Sept. 15 in Santa Fe. The Patriots are 3-0 on the season.
