Amigos del Valle, A Seniors Service Provider Holding Fundraiser Friday At Anthony’s At The Delta
Amigos del Valle is a community wide service project which works to provide services to senior adults who wish to remain independent within their own homes with a respectable style of life.
According to Amigos del Valle website the organization was formed in the fall of 1977 when the Española Valley Group Ministry, a cooperative group of United Methodist churches received a grant of $11,087.00 for the development of a senior citizens ministry. Since then, the Amigos del Valle program has grown. It now serves approximately 175 seniors in the Española Valley, has two full time care givers, many volunteers, and a budget of just over $119,000.
On a typical day Amigos del Valle care providers will make five in-home visits and provide some of the following kinds of services:
> Transportation to a doctor, pharmacy or hospital
> Deliver food or go shopping with a senior adult
> Provide minor home repairs
> Deliver wood for cooking or heating purposes
> Guide seniors who need homemakers or who are not aware of resources available to them
> Take a person to the bank or to a local senior center
> Offer reassurance and comfort to those who are lovely
Amigos del Valle provides needed services to those who are often most in need, the elderly. This organization does much with little and is now seeking to raise funds to pay program expenses. This Friday, April 17 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. Anthony’s at the Delta is hosting a “Northern Flavor” event for Amigos del Valle featuring northern New Mexico wine makers, live music, free food and some delicious wines.
Highlighting local wineries include:
- Vivac Winery
- Santa Fe Vineyards
- La Chiripada Winery
Tickets are $20.00 and all proceeds go to benefit Amigos del Valle.
