8th Annual Chili Bowl Cookoff

ESPANOLA: On Saturday, March 28th local cooks and chile experts will gather at the Santa Claran Casino Special Event Center to test their skills against each other in the 8th annual “Chili Bowl Cookoff”. Doors open at 10:00 A.M. and events run through 2:00 P.M. Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults or $3 for children ten and under.
Contestants will vie for the chance to compete for Prizes and Trophies to be awarded to the winners and the public will be the judges, determining the winners in three categories: Red Chile, Green Chile, and Salsa. Prize money will be awarded for all three categories, with First Place in each category winning $100, Second Place winning $75 and Third Place winning $50.
Would-be contestants are encouraged to be as creative as they want to be, but event organizers want them to know that all contestants have to be willing to taste their own chile or salsa. At the discretion of the Chili Team Coordinator, chili cooks may be required to remove the lids of their pots and taste their item before the startup of the event.
Also during the event there will be a silent auction and a costume contest for children ten years old and younger. Children are encouraged to come dressed as a chile, onion, garlic, tomato, or anything related to chile or salsa.
