2020 Española Valley Fiesta CANCELLED

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fiesta del Valle de Española Corp. Cancels 2020 Fiesta

Española – The Fiesta del Valle de Española Corporation (Fiesta Corp.) has made the
unfortunate decision to cancel the 2020 Fiesta del Valle due to the restrictions on public
gatherings as per the COVID-19 CDC regulations and in cooperation with Governor Michelle
Lujan-Grisham’s Public Health Order. The Fiesta del Valle (formerly known as the Fiesta de
Oñate until 1986) has been a community tradition continuously since 1969 and has only
not been hosted for the years of 1978, 1983 and most recently in 2018 when the City of

Española tried to disband the Fiesta Council; spurring the birth of a private 501c(3) non-
profit organization committed to hosting the event.

The Fiesta Corp. is collaborating with Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish to coordinate a Mass
dedicated to the 1598 Founding Families and the communities of our Española Valley in the
month of August. August is the actual month when the 1598 Oñate Expedition traveling El
Camino Real de Tierra Adentro composed of the original colonizers and their families
arrived in the Española Valley. Details for this event will be forthcoming as they become
available.
In the meantime, the Fiesta Corp. will be looking at different methods of fundraising to
host the 2021 Fiesta del Valle. If you returned and submitted 2020 Sponsorship Packets
already; please contact us at espanolafiesta1598@gmail.com so that we may work on
refunding your money as soon as possible.
The Fiesta Corporation is always in search of new members and volunteers interested in
carrying the torch forward in maintaining our community’s traditions and culture. We
invite you to get involved and contribute back to a timeless Española Valley tradition!
