2019 Northern Rio Grande Basketball Tournament Starts Today

One of the oldest and most-anticipated high school basketball tournaments in the state starts Thursday (1/3) at Pojoaque Valley High School. The 71st Northern Rio Grande basketball tournament includes eight boys’ teams and eight girls’ teams representing small high school from Northern New Mexico.

This year, two-time defending Class 3A boys state champion Pecos High School will try to make it three in a row at the Northern Rio Grande, having won the tournament the last two years The Peñasco High School girls basketball team will be looking for their second straight girls’ championship after taking the Northern Rio Grande title last year. Teams from McCurdy Charter School, Mesa Vista High School, Escalante High School, Mora High School, Dulce High School and Questa High School will be looking to dethrone the defending tournament champions.
