2015 SOC Scholarships Announced:
10 High School Seniors Awarded Scholarships
Española—Ten high school seniors from northern New Mexico will be honored this month as 2015 SOC Los Alamos Scholars representing rural communities across the extended Rio Arriba County region.
For 18 consecutive years, SOC Los Alamos has helped students from this region achieve their dreams of pursuing a higher education by providing scholarships for young men and women earning top scores in the program’s competitive process.
Each of the senior scholars will receive $1000 scholarships which will help the students cover the costs of their first successful semester in college, a pre-requisite to qualify for the New Mexico Lottery Scholarship which will cover tuition thereafter.
Since 1998 SOC Los Alamos has invested nearly $600,000 in educational enrichment as part of their Subcontractor Regional Community Development Plan (SRCDP). Scholars were selected based on their academic excellence, demonstrated leadership skills, commitment to community service and their expressed desire to return to the area and positively impact the communities who have supported them.
Investing in communities where they conduct business is a corporate value Day & Zimmermann has maintained since the creation of the corporation 114 years ago. The corporation’s subsidiary SOC Los Alamos, provides physical security for Los Alamos National Laboratory.
The Scholarship is managed by the SOC Community & Economic Development Division and is responsible for implementing the company’s SRCDP in three functional areas, Education, Economic Development and Community Giving. Since 1998 SOC Los Alamos has supported the region through volunteer service, in-kind donations and over $1 million in cash donations.
