Summer Youth Jobs Available At  Bandelier

For several summers, crews of young people have done valuable service for Bandelier National Monument, working on trails, archeological sites, and other projects.  The Bandelier Conservation Corps and the Bandelier Preservation Corps are organized through the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps and supervised by park staff. Both crews are now seeking applicants for this summer.

Bandelier Conservation Corps members will work on trails and other park improvements, performing manual labor on a variety of projects and gaining valuable field experience and outdoor skills. Bandelier Preservation Corps members will perform manual labor alongside National Park Service preservationists in the park's Ancestral Pueblo archeological sites.  Crew members will preserve structures, explore landscapes, and learn more about the cultural history of the monument and surrounding areas.

Participants in these crews are expected to have a strong work ethic,  work hard outdoors as part of a team, comply with work standards, participate in educational training sessions, maintain a positive and professional attitude, and respect the natural and cultural environment.  They must be 16-25 years old, able to commute daily to the crew meeting location in White Rock, and fulfill a complete 10-week commitment, with 40+ work hours per week.  Assuming full attendance, they receive a living stipend of $720 before taxes each two weeks. Upon completion of the program they receive an education award of $1,230.69 that can be used to pay tuition at most colleges, universities, and trade schools, or can be used to pay off student loans already acquired.
Applications are presently being taken for positions in both the Bandelier Conservation Corps and the Bandelier Preservation Corps, as well as for summer crew supervisors. Those interested should check youthcorps.org/getinvolved/  (if necessary, click on the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps logo) for details, requirements, and connections to applications.  Work is expected to begin in June.
