Española Valley Junior Wrestling State Results

The Española Valley Junior Wrestling Team participated in the New Mexico State Championships February 26th & 27th with a successful demonstration of athletic skill.  State Champions: Devin Atencio, Elijah Martinez, Jonathan Romero; State Runners Up: Cruz Sandoval, Adryan Triana, Damian Gonzales; 3rd place: Izzy Maestas; 4th place: Stephen Montoya, Noah Maez, Andrew Gonzales. Members of the team also participated in National Wrestling Tournaments in El Paso, Texas and Denver, Colorado.  2015 – 2016 National Champions: Elijah Martinez (2 time); Devin Atencio, Jonathan Romero.  Other National Placers: Cruz Sandoval (2nd place - 2 time); Devin Atencio (2nd place); Adryan Triana (3rd place); Landon Atencio (6th place – 2 time); and Noah Maez (5th place).

NM State Basketball Championships Tip Off Friday

The New Mexico Activities Association would like to advise the public of important information pertaining to the 2016 U.S. Bank State Basketball Championships.

The first round of the tournament will be played on Friday, March 4 (Girls) and Saturday, March 5 (Boys) at the home sites of the higher seeded teams.  Tickets for the first round games will be $5.00.

The Class A-6A seeding meetings were held on Sunday, February 28; brackets are now posted on the NMAA website at

First Round winners will advance to the Quarterfinals, Semifinals and Finals, which will be payed March 8-12 in...

EVHS Falls To Capital In Final Seconds

Los Alamos- Monday evening’s District Championship opening game for the Sundevil Boys had a heart stopping ending when Capital stole the ball in the final seconds leading to a layup and loss for EVHS.

The Sundevils and Capital are now 1 and 2 for the season and are likely to face off again...

EVHS Football Program Honored By State House

The New Mexico legislature took time on Wednesday, Feb 10 to honor the Española Valley High School Sundevil football team for their outstanding performance in the 2015 season.

Representative Debbie Rodella sponsored a house certificate honoring the 2015 Sundevils football team, Head Coach Miguel Medina and all the assistant coaches for achieving a school record 9-1 regular season, becoming district champions, and for going to the first round of the state tournament.

The Española Valley High School boys basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak in dramatic fashion Feb. 6 at Española. Senior Marcos Flores drove into the lane, stopped and popped a pullup jumper from the lane that fell through the basket with 1.3 seconds remaining in the game to give the Sundevils a 44-43 victory over the Sandia High School Matadors.
