Severe Thunder Storm Warning Issued

A severe thunderstorm warning remains in effect until mid-afternoon for the region At 1:34 P.M., a severe thunderstorm was located near White Rock, moving north at 35 mph. 

Quarter sized hail is already falling in areas of the Valley, and the National Weather Service warns area residents to expect strong to severe thunderstorms today in portions of northwestern, central, and eastern New Mexico. In northwestern New Mexico, damaging wind gusts are expected to be the primary threat, while central and eastern areas of the state will also have the potential for heavy downpours and large hail. A couple of isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out in central to eastern New Mexico.

60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.  Source...radar indicated.  Impact...hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage to roofs, siding, and trees. For youre protection the National Weather Service recommends moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.  Heavy rains from severe thunderstorms can produce sudden and dangerous flow in arroyos, ditches and over low water crossings. Do not attempt to drive through areas where water covers the roadway.  Accumulations of hail on roads can create very slick and hazardous driving conditions
