Scenes From Halloween In The Valley

Halloween has come and gone, but on that “frightful day” residents from the Valley came out to celebrate in various ways. Here are a few photos from around the Valley on Halloween.

Pictured above, three year old Ximena Veloz and her parents took some photos before heading out for trick or treat on Saturday afternoon. Ximena was dressed as Jessie the cowgirl from Toy Story and was posing with her favorite jack o’-lantern.

Los Luceros was opened up on Halloween for a very special “Haunted Tour” of the large Hacienda, In this image Marie Markesteyn guides a tour of the historic hacienda or “Casa Grande” as some call it. Markesteyn actually lived in the large home for two years in the 1980’s. Saturday’s tour was part of a fundraiser to benefit the Mesa Prieta Petroglyph Project.

Also at Los Luceros Saturday afternoon, a group of Matachines from Alcalde and a photographer showed up to take some photos for an upcoming book that will talk about this traditional dance performed in part as devotion to God and to also convey the history around significant events. Pictures here Galento Martinez is dressed as the famous “Greenhorn” Comanche from a tale that dates back to the 1770’s. Martinez is joined by his son Kevin and daughter Eleanor who have taken up the tradition. Martinez and his family will be performing on Dec. 27 at the Catholic Church in Alcalde and invite all to attend.

Hulk Smashed? Saturday evening friends and family went trick or treating, attended a NNMC basketball game and out to eat. Pictures here, the Hulk stopped by the Blue Herron after the NNMC Eagles won their second home game of the season.

Three week old Jacob Ikenna Rodriguez dressed as a gumball machine for his first Halloween also took a break at the Blue Herron rather than stay out too long asking for candy.
