Scenes From The Fiesta

Staff Report

The 2017 Española Valley Fiesta, or Las Fiestas Delvalle de Española has come to a close Sunday evening with thousands of residents and tourists enjoying the events and pageantry.

Here a few photos from the weekend of Fiesta activities.

Torch Run

Members of the Torch Run team approach the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Catholic Church in Española. The Torch Run began at El Santuario de Chimayo, where the runners were blessed and began their 13-mile journey to Española. They carried the torch in relays along Highway 76 into Española with an escort of State Police Officers and the Rio Arriba County Sherrif’s deputies.

The Torch Run was initiated in 1969 to honor returning veterans and those who gave their lives in the Vietnam War. It was later incorporated into the Las Fiestas de Valle de Española
