Planning Commission Defers Cell Tower Application At Verizon’s Request

ESPAÑOLA-The City of Española Planning Commission met Thursday evening for their regular monthly meeting where one of the agenda items to be reviewing was the special use permit for Verizon Wireless Inc. to place a "Stealth Monopine" cellular tower in Española . The hearing on this proposed tower did not occur because Verizon Wireless, the applicant sent a request to defer the hearing until the May 14 meeting.

On a 3 to1 vote the five attending members of the Planning Commission then voted to table the item until May with Commissioner Richard Beaudoin voting against tabling and Commissioner John Ricco recusing himself.

Several resident of the neighborhood surrounding the proposed Old School Road location arrived at the meeting intending to speak on the issue but left before the meeting started once they learned it was to be taken off the agenda.

Also during the Thursday meeting the Commission approved a variance for a front and rear setback at 509 Calle Del Alamo and also considered and rolled over a request to amend the site plan for the Performance Maintenance Incorporated site at 835 N. Paseo De Oñate until the June 11 meeting.
