Letter To Editor: Reassess Aamodt Settlement

by Staff Reporter / Sep 05, 2016 / comments

Dear Editor

I would like to ask our State Legislators to stop funding the proposed Aamodt Settlement and allocate these funds to a proven program i.e., Pre-K education. Presently, the Aamodt Settlement requires ~$50 to $70 million of NM taxpayer dollars for a proposed county regional water system (CRWS) that will obtain water from the Rio Grande at a location north of USGS Otowi Gauging station.

Is this CRWS a good thing? Please consider the following...

Photo of the week

The photo above was not taken this past week but is actually a picture of a little girl with her mother sometime in the 1950’s.

The photo is a little dated but look closely at the little girl. She is like many girls we all know.

What makes this photo special is this little girl was nominated to be president of the United States on Tuesday night...

Op Ed: Serving My Country Just To End Up Homeless

by Staff Reporter / Apr 26, 2016 / comments

Many veterans are returning home from combat without the help to find housing, treatment, counseling or health care policies. Statistics shows that as of January 2015, there were 47,725 homeless veterans. They accounted for 11% of the homeless population. This number has dropped 4% from 2014. Of the homeless veteran population, 9% are female and 57% of the homeless veterans are white. This percentage is totally unacceptable...

Letter to the Editor: The Nursing Home from Heaven

by Reporter / Feb 24, 2016 / comments

I am writing to express my gratitude and appreciation to Sombrillo Skilled Nursing Center in Los Alamos, New Mexico. My mom, who just turned 89 last week, has been living at Sombrillo for the last year and a half.  During this time I have been so very impressed with every facet of the facility. I live in New York and even though I come to visit as often as possible, I never have to worry about the care mom is getting.  In fact, the staff feels like family to me and when I arrive or when I check in on the phone, everyone is so friendly and helpful.
