Obituary: Cristobal Martinez of Santa Cruz, New Mexico

Cristobal Martinez of Santa Cruz, New Mexico, has passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 7th, 2015, in Albuquerque, from a heart condition.

Cristobal is survived by his loving wife Evangeline and his children, Tina Colson, Daughter in Law Yolanda Gerber, Bridget and husband Bruce Blowers, sons Walter, Jonathan, Carl, Christopher & wife Crista, and Felicia Martinez, brother Pasqual (PeeWee) Martinez, and two Sisters Leticia Shelton, Marcella Calloway, and Sister-in Law Beatrice Pineda. He is also survived by many grandchildren: Sarah Hudson, Christopher Colson, Jennifer Moore, Jodie Essary, Jonathan Martinez Jr., Donovan Molina, Jessie Serrano, Esperanza and Andres Martinez, great grandchildren; Noah and Sky Hudson, Jeremy Gerber Jr., Ian and Isaiah Essary, and Archer Moore. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Those that have preceded him in death are; His parents Enrique and Adelina Martinez, Siblings Alfonso, Eloy, Severino, Napoleon, Ralph, Rudy, Cleofas, Pricilla, and Lupita and his sons Larry, Ralph Bernard and grandsons Noah and Jeremy.

Mr. Martinez was very active in many organizations in his career and in life, often fighting hard for Civil Rights and Worker’s Rights. Cristobal spent most of his career and retired from the US Forest Service as a Civil Engineer. His job was a perfect fit for a man who loved nature and meeting people. Since he helped build most of the roads in New Mexico he is well-known throughout the state.

Cristobal will have a Rosary Mass at our Lady of Fatima on 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE Albuquerque, New Mexico, 87110 on Thursday, May 14th, 2015, at 7 pm. There will also be a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Fatima on Friday, May 15th, 2015, at 10:30 am with interment to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 pm where he will be celebrated with full WWII Navy Honors.
