The obituaries for Josefina D. Salinas, Adela P. Vigil (Della), Cecilia Ortiz and Jennie P. Romero have been provided by the respective funeral homes or family members. Please read on for full details.


Josefina D. Salinas of Española

Josefina D. Salinas, 75, a resident of Española, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 following a battle with cancer; with her loving family by her side.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio G. Salinas; son, Albino Salinas IV; parents, Guadalupe and Sofia Martinez; and son-in-law, Robert Mickey Garcia.

Josefina was a teacher for the Española School District for over 30 years and was an avid reader. She was happily married to Antonio Salinas for 50 years. She enjoyed spending time with all her family and she will be missed dearly.

Mrs. Salinas is survived by her children, Antonio Salinas and wife Tania, Theresa Garcia and companion Steve Gabaldon, Sandra Anderson and husband Henry and Aaron Salinas; grandchildren, Daniela, Antonio III, and Andres Salinas, Robert, Michael and Christopher Garcia, Jacob Martinez and companion Neva, Janae Martinez, James M. and Valerie Montaño, Amanda, Monica, Albino Ⅴ, Raymond and Aaron “The Bubs” Salinas, Hannah and Claudia Rosacker; great-grandchildren, MiKayla Josefina and John Gurule, Zaydrian Cordova, Esperanza and Isabella Sandoval and TeAnna Wilkins; sister, Mary Apodaca; comadre/niece, Alicia Apodaca, loving God-daughter, Brittany Apodaca, and numerous other loving relatives and friends.

The family would like to thank Del Corazon Hospice, Dr. Maley, Dona Archuleta, and Alyssa Ulibarri  for all their help during this difficult time.

Public visitation will begin on Monday, January 8, 2018 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada. Burial to follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Santa Cruz with the following serving the family as pallbearers, James Montaño, Antonio Salinas III, Andres Salinas, Aaron “The Bubs” Salinas, Jacob Martinez and Albino Salinas V. Honorary pallbearers will be all her remaining grandchildren.

Adela P. Vigil (Della) of Chimayo

Adela P. Vigil (Della), 80, a resident of Chimayo passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florian and Patrocinia Montoya; husband, Levi Vigil; son, Albert “Sonny” Vigil; grandson, Isaac Vigil, granddaughters, Jackie and Deanne Vigil; brothers, Orlando, Manuel, Felipe and Labriano Montoya, sisters, Delfinia Montoya and Ignacita Trujillo; and special nephew, Larry Montoya.

Della was born on October 1, 1937 and she lived a very full and happy life. Della was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden, listening to Darren Cordova, raising peacocks and especially spending time with her family.

Della is survived by her two daughters, Patsy Vigil (Archie) of La Puebla and Roselene Vigil (Gilbert) of Chimayo; grandson, Patrick, great-granddaughter, Reanna of La Puebla, granddaughter, Daisy Vigil of Chimayo, granddaughter, Louella (Leon), great-grandsons, Matthew (Samantha), Archie (Mariah), Derrick (Franchesca), and great-great grandson, Isiah all of Chimayo; brother, Gilbert (Maria) Montoya of Arroyo Seco; sister, Genoveva (Ernesto) Archuleta of Chimayo; a very dear close sister-in-law, Carolina Montoya, Lugarda Montoya of Chimayo; special nieces, Finnie Gonzales of Denver, CO and Peggy Maida Montoya of Chimayo.

A wake service will begin on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with a burial to follow at Nuestra Señora de Dolores Cemetery in Chimayo.

Serving the family as pallbearers are, Patrick Vigil, Matthew Martinez, Archie Vigil, Derrick Vigil, Jody Archuleta and Peggy Maida Montoya. Honorary pallbearers will be: Daisy, Reanna, Isiah, Louella, Finnie, Samantha, Franchesca, Mariah, Carleena, Arsenio, Judy, Annette, Shirley, Crucita, Geraldine, Tommy, Betty and Sylvia.

The family of Adela P. Vigil has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.

 


Cecilia Ortiz of El Rito

Cecilia Ortiz, 45, a resident of El Rito, passed away of a short illness on Saturday, December 30, 2017. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Ortiz Jr.; niece, Sharon Ortiz.

Cecilia loved going with Alice and other friends to the Casino. She loved camping and listening to Spanish music, she loved going shopping for new Jewelry. She is survived by her mother, Rosina Ortiz; siblings, Nancy Ortiz (Gene), Johnny Ortiz, Ralph Martinez (Phyllis), Joe Ortiz (DeeAnne); nieces, Audry Ortiz (Antoine), Angelita Sandoval and Breanna Martinez (Antonio).

Public visitation was on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the San Juan Nepomuceno Catholic Church in El Rito.

Serving the family as pallbearers Reyes Gallegos, honorary pallbearers are Francisco and Daniel Ortiz, Angel Sandoval, Addyson and Ayden Jenson.

Jennie P. Romero of Truchas

Jennie P. Romero, 89, a resident of Truchas Passed away on Saturday December 30, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Flavio Romero; children, Candie Romero, Viola Velarde, Timoteo Romero; grandsons, Adrian and Timmy Jr. Romero; parents, Bill, and Predicanda Panas; brothers, Henry, Melecio, and Jose Panas; sister, Cordelia Cordova; and In-Laws, Elaisa, Augustine, and Ernestina.

Jennie loved to crochet, make blankets, dance, cook, and bake. Traveling always made her happy. Her biggest joy was taking care of her loving grandson Johnny. She loved to spend time with her family, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Clorindo Romero (Yolanda), Billy Romero, Gilbert Romero (Barbara), Joe Romero (Cecilia), Stella Valdez (Leroy), Sandra Rodriguez (Roger), and Jackie Romero (Larry); daughter-in-law, Jenny Romero; son-In-law, Joe Velarde; special grandson whom she helped raise, Johnny Lopez; sisters-in-Law, Eloisa Rodriguez, and Carmen Panas, and numerous other grandchildren,  great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

Public visitation was on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Peace of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with the rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Truchas. Burial was held at Los Llanitos Catholic Cemetery also in Truchas.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Stella Valdez, Felix Rodriguez, Billy, Larry, Christopher, Joe, Gilbert, and David Romero. Honorary Pallbearers will be all of her grandchildren.
