The obituaries for Simonita V. Vigil, Joe C. Fresquez, Velma F. Clevelle and Nicolas “Nick” Gonzales have been provided by the respective funeral homes or family members. Please read on for full details.


 

Simonita V. Vigil of Rio Chiquito

Simonita V. Vigil, a resident of Rio Chiquito, passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, October 5, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Moises Vigil; sons, Jerry and Jake Vigil; daughters, Angelina and Maximiana Vigil; brothers, Pete and Bernabe Vigil; sister, Maximiana Vigil; parents, Jose Inez and Marcelina Vigil; parents–in-law, Emiliano and Sinforosa Vigil, and sister-in-law, Lilly Cordova. Simonita loved her family dearly.

Special moments that she spent with them meant everything to her especially if it was doing what she loved most. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her flowers, her dog, Tiny, and all her different animals. She was a devoted Christian who loved worshipping God and reading the bible. She enjoyed listening to Christian music, traveling and crocheting.

Simonita is survived by her children, Grace (Henry) Vigil-Salazar, Joyce (Henry) Vigil-Sandoval, Daniel Vigil (Norma), Robert (Renee) Vigil, and Jenny Vigil; grandchildren, Patricia, LeeAnne (Davi), Vanessa (Damon), Teresita (Eric), Ashley, Angelina, Joseph (Kayla), Joshua, Carlos, Julianna (Pat); great-grandchildren, Jose Moises, Trinity, Kyleigh, Carlos Jr., Joseph Jr., Teo, Noah, Aryannah, Laelah, and Simone; and brother-in-law, Tony S. Vigil.

A Devotional service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at Victory Faith Church in Española.

Funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. also at Victory Faith Church, with a burial to follow at the Cundiyo Cemetery.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be Joseph Vigil, Joshua Sandoval, Carlos Atencio, Jose Moises Lopez, Damon Hansel, Eric De La Torre, and Davi Hasslacher. Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jimmy, David, Pete, Benny, Clyde Vigil, Isaac Cordova and other family and friends.

The family of Simonita V. Vigil has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Espanola Valley.

 

 

 


Joe C. Fresquez of San Pedro

Joe C. Fresquez, 93, a resident of Upper San Pedro, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 5, 2017. Joe was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Guadalupe Fresquez; parents, Santiago and Tonita Fresquez; siblings, Sam, Ramon and Maria; parents-in-law, Chana and Catalino Ortiz; brother and sister-in-laws, Horacio Ortiz, Laura Borrego, Eva Garcia and Gaby Lujan.

Joe was a World War II Veteran serving in the South Pacific Pearl Harbor. He worked as a carpenter and in construction and took part in building the Santa Fe Opera as well as schools in Española, Los Alamos and Santa Fe. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and dancing.

Mr. Fresquez is survived by his wife Helen of 69 years; children, Horace, Marquita (Alex), Imelda (John), Velda (Jerry), Anita (David), and Veronica (Arnold); siblings, Pete (Lydia), Teresa, Francis (Pat), and Lourdes (Anthony).

Public visitation was held on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary recited at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian was celebrated on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Santa Cruz. Burial will take place onTuesday, October 10, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be John Ceballes, Brian Gray, Joseph Fresquez, Stephen Cordova, Nicolas Cordova, and Marcos Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Melissa Gonzales, Heather Nelson, Marisa Montoya, Kristen, Amaya and Diego Maestas, Frankie Gonzales, Emma Ceballes, Blayke Montoya, Ida Salazar, Paul and Barbara Fresquez and Pete and Lydia Fresquez. Special thank you to the Española Nursing Home Staff especially Sandra, Henry, Vanessa and Donna for the wonderful care expressed to Joe and his family.

Velma F. Clevelle of Abiquiu

Velma F. Clevelle, 72, a resident of Abiquiu, passed away of a lengthy illness on Monday, October 2, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Rose Jaramillo; daughter, Monica.

Velma was a retired U.S. Army Veteran. She was very active in her church parish and was a devoted member of the Society of San Antonio, the Society of San Jose, and the Morada de Moque. She loved spending time with her grandchildren more than anything.

Velma was an avid reader and a gracious host. She was retired from Los Cumbres Learning Center in Española after 15 years of service.

Velma is survived by her spouse, Ronald Clevelle; son, Jason Clevelle (Alyssa); grandchildren, Skylar Clevelle, Connor Middleton, Tabytha Clevelle, and Lyric Clevelle; siblings, Theresa Jaramillo (Antonio), Eppie Jaramillo, Ben Jaramillo (Sally), and nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones.

Public visitation was on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. also at the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Abiquiu, followed with a burial at the Abiquiu Catholic Cemetery.

Nicolas “Nick” Gonzales of Dixon

Nicolas “Nick” Gonzales, 89, a resident of Dixon, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 1, 2017 following a short illness.

Mr. Gonzales was preceded in death by his infant son, Richard; mother, Maclovia; sister, Cipricia Griego; nephews, Leroy and Michael Griego; niece, Virginia Griego; mother and father-in-law, Rumaldo and Magdalena Gonzales, and many other relatives. Mr. Gonzales is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ermelina; sons, Armando (Dana), Richard (Peggy) and Larry Gonzales; daughters, Rachel (Dennis) Padilla and Shirley Gonzales; grandsons, Albert Roybal and Damian Gonzales, and a grandson that he raised like a son, Paul Gonzales and fiancée Erlinda; step-grandchildren, Vaness Padilla (Miguel), Dennis Padilla Jr., and step-great grandson, Miguel Jr.; sisters-in-law, Oralia, Lucy and Juanita Gonzales and Ruth Gurule; special nieces, Lydia Salazar and Diana Griego; nephew, Bobby Griego and many other loved ones.

Public visitation was held on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon with a rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial took place at the Father Cooper Cemetery in Dixon. Serving the family as pallbearers are Paul Gonzales, Albert Roybal, Damian Gonzales, Dennis Padilla, Norman Gurule and Justin Salazar- Torrez.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Ruben Lucero, Horacio Martinez, Manuel Archuleta, Andrea Trujillo and Ricki Garcia. Special thanks to Ambercare, Giving Home Health Care Services, Embudo Clinic Staff, and Father Simeon.
