Roberta Toledo of Rio Lucio

Roberta Toledo, 61, a resident of Rio Lucio (Penasco) passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Frances Padilla; and her niece, Michelle Decoteau (Padilla). 

Roberta was born in Albuquerque and moved with her family to Los Alamos when she was 12 years old.  She graduated from Los Alamos High School in 1973 and went on to serve two years in the United States Marines working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.  Roberta’s creativity, finesse, and technical expertise provided her with a broad spectrum of job opportunities which included hair stylist, administration at the Zia Company in Los Alamos, and computer and technical support at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Albuquerque. 

Roberta loved fishing with the love of her life, Seyfred and spending time with her grandchildren. 

She is survived by her husband, Seyfred Toledo; two children, Antoinette Garcia and Rhonda Quintana; two step-children, Candice Toledo and Charmaine Toledo; grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Jenae, Joseph, Xiola, Julian, and Kairi; brothers, Edward Padilla (Angie) and Michael Padilla (Lori); nieces Yvette Byers (Dan) and Cheryl Padilla; and brothers-in-law, Steve Toledo (Jeanne) and Tom Toledo; and sister-in-law, Karen Toledo. 

Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Los Alamos with burial to follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Xavior Michael Martinez

On Friday, August 4, 2017, The Herrera and Martinez family suffered the loss of their precious boy as Heaven welcomed an Angel; Xavior Michael Martinez at the age of 5 years old. Anyone who was blessed to meet Xavior felt their lives were touched by an Angel. His bright smile would brighten everyone’s day. He loved spending time with his mom at the pool. He would tell her, “throw me in mom” and each time she did he would want to be thrown that much further and that much higher the next time. He loved the bond he shared with his dad, he loved the time they spent in the mountains whether playing in the snow, camping, looking for sheds and hunting. No matter the season, when his dad asked, “What do you want to do today?”, his response was more than likely. “Let’s go to the monte.” No words can express the impact he had and how much he will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his maternal great grandfather Thomas Archuleta of Chamita and paternal great grandmother, Lillian (Nika) Martinez of La Puebla. Xavior is survived by his mom, Michelle Herrera and fiancé Lamonte (Amont) Cole of Santa Fe; Xavior’s dad, David Martinez of La Puebla; His sister Kendra and brother Aiden both of Santa Fe; Maternal grandfather, Michael Herrera of Chamita and maternal grandmother, Angelica Archuleta of Chamita; Paternal grandmother, Ana (Nana) Martinez of La Puebla; Auntie Nicky (Mickey); Uncle Daniel and Auntie Mireya(TiTi); maternal great grandmothers, Manuelita Archuleta of Chamita and Amanda Herrera of Riverside; paternal great grandfather, David Martinez of Chimayo and many, many other relatives and friends.

Public visitation will begin on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Church in Chimayo with a devotional service to follow at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. also as the Lighthouse Church in Chimayo, with a burial to follow at the Lighthouse Cemetery in Chimayo.

Serving the family as pallbearers will be, Michael Herrera, Lamonte Cole, Daniel Weirl, Mark Mascarenas, Flavio Martinez, Vince Martinez, Gabriel Romero and Matthew Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Xavior’s sister Kendra, brother Aiden, his cousin Acelynn, Auntie Nicky, Aunty Mireya and cousins, Anthony, Aaron and Jenna.

Kevin James Martinez Jr of Rio Chama

Kevin James Martinez, JR., 23, a resident of Rio Chama, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 5, 2017 following injuries sustained in a car accident. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leonard Lucero; uncle, Juanito Martinez and other grandparents, aunts and uncles. Kevin was born on November 23, 1993 and graduated from Española Valley High School in 2012. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, going for wood, latillas and trapping. He loved being in the mountains with his grandpa, dad and God-father. He enjoyed traveling on his street bike. He adored his God-daughter. He was loved by so many people. He had a wonderful personality, loved to laugh and joke. He made friends everywhere he went and was always so helpful to everyone. He will be missed dearly. Mr. Martinez is survived by his loving parents, Kevin, Sr. and Vickie Martinez; sister, Felicia Martinez; God-daughter, Andalyssa Martinez; paternal grandmother, Eva Martinez; maternal grandparents, Rosie Lucero; maternal great-grandmother, Ernestine Martinez and Theresa Lopez; God-parents, Bradley and Annette Martinez; paternal aunts and uncle, Loretta Rivera (Martin), Sheila Martinez and Ernie Montoya; maternal aunts and uncles, Anthony (Fern) Lucero, Regina (Toby) Martinez, Roxanne Lucero and Sarah Hurtado; special friends, Nina Vigil and Sandy Herrera and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the San Juan Nepumuceno Catholic Church in El Rito. Burial to follow at the Martinez Family Cemetery in El Rito with the following serving as pallbearers, Bradley Martinez, Martin Rivera, Toby Martinez, Rogelio Garcia, Ernie Montoya, Nathaniel Romero, Anthony Lucero, Leonard Trujillo and Norman Lopez. Honorary pallbearers will be, Justina Martinez, Jessie Lucero, Anthony Bowker, Daylon Garcia. The family of Kevin James Martinez has entrusted their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley. 

 


Jose Adelaido Torrez of Cordova

Jose Adelaido Torrez, age 73, a lifelong resident of Cordova was called to be home with the Lord on August 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Torrez and two daughters; Angela and Diana Torrez; parents, Remijio and Adelia Torrez; brother, Paulito; sister, Floy Medart; in-laws, Juan Antonio and Rosalia DeAguero; brothers-in-law, Juan, Randy, and Carlos DeAguero, and Jesse Cordova.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alice Torrez; sons, Robert Torrez (Bonnie), and Orlando Torrez; daughters, Linda Padilla (Albert), Corine Torrez (Matthew), and two grandchildren he raised and loved dearly, Jason Torrez and Kysha Lujan; special granddaughter, Lorraine Sandoval (Julian) Lexi Chavez and Leigha Sandoval; granddaughters, Audrey Padilla (Ambrose), Jeannette Montano (Juan), and Denise Padilla (Eric); brothers, Gilbert Torrez (Orlinda), Lawrence Torrez (Nina), Rowdy Torrez (Victoria); sisters, Isabel Sanchez (Bobby), Belinda Roybal (Delbert), Clorida Sanchez (Arturo), Susie Cordova, Cathy Cordova, Julia Cooper, and Betty Torrez; special nephew that was like a brother, Dwayne Sanchez (Reyna) and many other great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Public visitation will begin on Saturday, August 12, 2107 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. A second rosary will be recited on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo.

Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo. Burial to follow at the Cordova Catholic Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers; Robert, Orlando, and Jason Torrez, Matthew Salazar, Julian Sandoval, Ambrose Ortiz, and Dwayne Sanchez.
