Stella Trujillo

Our beloved, Stella Trujillo, 70, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Ida Trujillo; and brother, Ernie Trujillo. Stella will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband, Tony Trujillo; daughter, Susie Trujillo-Martinez (Dominic), son, Ronald Trujillo (Peggy); grandchildren, Amanda Quintana (Allen), Victoria Trujillo and Ariana Trujillo; siblings, Henry Trujillo (Margarita), Maria-Rae Desmond (Reggie), Santiago Trujillo, George Trujillo (LaVern), Paul Trujillo (Mabel), Rebecca Hillman (Greg), and Doreen Lowery (Dusty), and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Stella was born February 1, 1947 in Nambe, New Mexico where she resided until her passing. In 1963 she married Tony Trujillo the love of her life, and enjoyed 54 wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised two children and were blessed with three granddaughters whom she was always bragging about.  Stella was a strong, caring, loving and compassionate woman of great faith and devotion to God.

In 1993, Stella founded Light Styles of Santa Fe, a business that began with her vision to create art through light. It became her greatest passion and is one of her many legacies. Her spirit, drive, and support from her family and friends gave her the courage to begin this endeavor which turned into a successful business for over 24 years. Her outgoing personality, love of others, and passion to create artwork has touched many lives through the years. She will greatly be missed.

Please join us in celebrating her life. Public visitation will begin on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.also at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe, with the burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the American Cancer Society. We would like to thank everyone for their prayers, well wishes and friendship. The family of Stella Trujillo has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.

 


Dolores L. Gallegos of Española

Dolores L. Gallegos, 81, a resident of Española, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017. She is preceded in death by her parents, Amarante and Salome Archuleta; husband, Jimmie F. Gallegos; and son, Lawrence J. Gallegos.

Dolores was a Teacher’s Assistant for the Española Public Schools for 20 years. She was married to her late husband for 60 years before his passing in 2016. She was a grandmother to 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Dolores is survived by her children, Alice Abbott and husband Doug of Gardendale, Texas, Diane Sanchez and fiancé Walter Peralta of Española, Samuel Gallegos and companion Tammy Valdez of Española, and Michael J. Gallegos and wife Elaine of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Phillip Sanchez and wife Stephanie of Albuquerque, Andrea Sanchez of Albuquerque, Dominic Sanchez of Dallas, Texas, Bernadette Sanchez of Albuquerque, James Gallegos and fiancé Davida Hollis of Santa Fe, Josh Gallegos of Española, Will and Martina Abbot of Gardendale, Texas, Stephanie B. Martin of Rio Rancho, and Jordan J. Gallegos of Española; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Public visitation will begin on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Canada, with a burial to follow at 11:15 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers are Will Abbot, Dominic Sanchez, Joshua Gallegos, Phillip Sanchez, James Gallegos, Walter Peralta. Honorary pallbearer will be Isaiah Romero.

Julio Eloy Martinez of Rio Chama

Julio Eloy Martinez, 89, a resident of Rio Chama, passed away of a lengthy illness on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Julio was preceded in death by his parents, Juan Antonio and Bernardita Martinez, Tia Ernestina Gallegos who he cared for many years; sisters, Nepumucena (Tena) Martinez, Maria Luisa Chacon, Tillie Martinez, brothers, Benceslaus, Arsenio, Jose Benito, Max I., and Juan Andres Martinez. He enjoyed ranching, farming, barbering and carpentry. Julio is survived by his sister, Lucy Martinez and husband Sixto Sr. of Medenales; niece and nephew who he raised as his own children, Bernie Sanchez and husband Joe, Lorenzo Martinez and wife Patricia both of Rio Chama, nieces and nephews, Brenda, Maria, Anthony (Tara), Ricky, Lorenzo Jr. (Rhonda), Mario, AnnRica, Mercedes, Ira, Joseph, Hannah, Sarabeth, Mariah, Nicholas, Joleesa and Raeann all of Rio Chama whom he considered his grandchildren, and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins; special caregiver, Susana Mendoza of Española. Public visitation will begin on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory, with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at San Jose Catholic Church in Hernandez, with a burial to follow at the San Jose Cemetery. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Anthony, Ricky, Lorenzo Jr., Mario, Alonso and Sixto Jr. The family of Julio Eloy Martinez has entrusted the care of their loved one to the DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory of the Española Valley.

 


Sofio A. Ortiz

Sofio A. Ortiz was born on October 27, 1948 to the late Frank and Alberta Ortiz. He married his beloved Theresa in June 1967.

Sofio worked for many years with the Carson National Forest in El Rito until his retirement in 2010. He loved being outdoors and cruising around listening to his loud music in the car. He also loved to play poker and always was up for good card game.

Sofio is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert, Reyes, Frank Jr and Ross Ortiz and by his sister Griselda Trujillo; mother in law Isabel Madrid and brother in law Teofilo Madrid. Surviving him are his wife Theresa of 50 years; his daughter Loretta who also lived with him and took care of all his needs; daughter Arlene Lucero and husband Ron of Española; grandsons, Bryan Lucero and Nathan Lucero and wife Shanea all of Phoenix, AZ; great granddaughters Ajaya and Jerikah and his soon to be born great grandson Mateo Lucas. He also survived by his sister Mary Kulnane and husband John; brother Orlando and wife Cecilia; sisters in law Elizabeth Ortiz, Rosina Ortiz, Donna Ortiz and Anna Madrid; brothers in law Ponciano Madrid and wife Bennie, Ruben Madrid and Eloy Trujillo; very special friends Joe and Judy Martinez and Juanito and Ruby Sisneros and a God daughter he considered like his own Cindy Martinez and husband Orlando and of course his beloved dogs Nikko and Buster plus numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren, family and friends.
