Northern XC Team Quickly Growing

Staff Reporter Sports Report

Northern New Mexico College has a cross-country team that will surprise people in the Aii Conference after adding over 20 runners to the roster.

Augustus Cuch returning on the men's side should lead a crew of new runners including, Matt Herrera, Pojoaque, NM, and Daniel Velasquez, Espanola, NM.  The team also has a steadily improving group that should help score well for the Eagles Men's team.  On the women's side, the Lady Eagles should compete strong at the conference with a solid core of runners including Ashley John, Shiprock, NM, Shania Harry, Shiprock, NM and Cuba HS standout, Henrena Montoya.  "The program in a whole is new and will take time to develop, but our runners are working hard and would like to compete immediately against the best in the conference," Coach Tony Gallegos

Northern will travel to three regular season meets and the Conference Championships in Denver, CO. " Last year, Augustus was two places away from qualifying to Nationals, this year we would like to qualify him and the rest of the team to race in the National cross-country Meet in North Carolina."
