 Free October Professional Artist Workshop & Performance Series

Española — In October, Moving Arts Española will bring world-class Teaching Artists and Performers from Dancing Earth Indigenous Dance Creations and the New Mexico School for the Arts to the Moving Arts facility on the Pueblo of Ohkay Owingeh. Artists will work with local students to develop skills in the performing and visual arts, and will perform for the community. Workshops and performances will be offered FREE of charge.

On Monday, October 2nd, artists from Dancing Earth Indigenous Dance Creations will visit Moving Arts Española to conduct two hands-on workshops for students from the Ohkay Owingeh Community School and the Moving Arts Level 2 Dance and Drama after school program. At 6:00pm, Dancing Earth will offer a special performance in the Moving Arts Performance Center- this performance will be FREE and open to the community. Dancing Earth is an award winning Indigenous contemporary dance ensemble that highlights the stories and talents of intertribal peoples, with focus on ecological issues including sacred sites, waters, seeds and Native foods. They are so happy to share their cultural creativity with their home communities in New Mexico, in between tour stops to Arizona, Zuni reservation, and Guahan ( as presented by Guam Humanities Council). They intend to bring movement to embody a future of good health for all living beings here on Mother Earth.

Faculty from the New Mexico School for the Arts will offer a FREE weekend workshops for students ages 11 and up who are interested in developing skills in Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts. On Saturday, October 7th from 10:00am-12:00pm, NMSA Theater Department Chair Joey Chavez will present 'Get Up and Get Loud' - a workshop to prepare the body, voice, and imagination for theatre, and NMSA Dance Department Chair Garrett Anderson will present 'Learn the Basics of Movement, Posture, & Improvisation'. On Saturday, October 23rd from 10:00am - 12:00pm, NMSA Visual Arts Faculty Member Andres Machin will present 'Collaboration in Art', and NMSA Percussion Instructor Jesse Parker will present a special percussion / rhythm workshop, 'Share your Rhythm!!' All workshops are FREE and are open to all students ages 11 and up. NMSA is a free state-wide arts high school with equal emphasis on arts and academics. NMSA prepares students to successfully apply to a wide range of colleges, universities, conservatories, art schools, and professional training programs.

Moving Arts Española (MAE) provides high quality, affordable performing and visual arts education and free nutritional and academic support for children and youth ages 3-18. Programs promote the creative, physical, academic, social and emotional well being of children and youth from the Española Valley and the surrounding communities of Northern New Mexico. Moving Arts is located at 368 Eagle Drive, Ohkay Owingeh, just off of Highway 68 north of the Ohkay Casino and Travel Center.
