This free, four-day performing arts workshop will guide middle and high school students through a creative process that culminates in an original, multimedia performance for an audience. On the first day, students will take a field trip to interview and learn about several community-outreach organizations and their beneficiaries, including Tewa Women United, HOY, Las Cumbres and Sostenga.  Then, over the remaining three days, the students will create a performance piece that explores the issues learned from this field research.  There will be a leadership team of twelve college-aged councilors, who are all individually trained and accomplished in camp counseling and the arts—these councilors will facilitate to ensure a dynamic, collaborative process, and a quality final performance.

The goal of this workshop is to expose both the students and councilors to the issues facing their community, and then train them to respond to these issues in productive, positive ways.  Growing from that root throughout the remainder of the workshop, students and college-aged councilors will cultivate performances that analyze the issues and imagine positive futures.  A final performance will be offered at no cost to the community of Española at the Moving Arts Performance Center on Friday, July 8th at 6:00p.m.
