Local Teams Advance: Espanola, Pojoaque and Escalante Move Up

Three of our local boys teams and one of the girls teams has gotten off to a great start in the 2015 NMAA State Basketball Championship.

Boys  Championship Basketball

Up in Escelante, the 2A no. 2 seed Escalante Lobos moves on to the quarterfinals where they will face off against Dora/Elida Coyotes at Bernalillo High School Gym on 3/11/15 at 8:15 P.M.

Down in Pojoaque, the 4A no. 6 seed Pojoaque Elks  advances to meet the no. 3 seed Taos Tigers on Wednesday 03/11/15 at 4:45 P.M. for the quarterfinals at the SASC.

The 5A no. 5 seed Espanola Sundevils move on to meet no. 13 seed Artesia Bulldogs at the UNM Pit (Wise Pies Arena) in Albuquerque at 6:30 on 3/11.

 

Girls Championship Basketball

Escelante fell in the first round to Dora 24-59.

Further South in the Valley, the no. 4 seed Espanola girls team is off to a burning start as they have blown past their first two opponents. In the first two matchups the no. 4 seed Lady Sundevils defeated Del Norte 40-28 and then topped their rivals from Lovington 61-48. The Lady Sundevils now advance to the semifinals  against the Lady Bengals from Gallup on March 12th at 1:15 P.M. in the Pit.

The State Tournament will wrap up with Girls Finals on March 13th and Boys on March 14th in the Pit in Albuquerque. Stay tuned as our Valley schools fight on.
