It’s Official: School Board Confirms Gutierrez Offer

Staff Report

Monday evening the Espanola School Board made it official and tentatively offered former Superintendent Bobbie Gutierrez a two-year contract for the superintendent position. Gutierrez will be returning to Espanola Public Schools as Superintendent after the Board voted 4-1 to offer her a two-year contract. The details of her contract will be made public after it is approved by the State Public Education Department (PED). PED oversight and approval of all contracts is currently necessary as the state agency took over control of all Espanola district finances late last year citing financial mismanagement under former Superintendent Eric Martinez.

During a public forum to meet the three finalists held last Thursday (See story HERE) Gutierrez spoke of her plans to regain the state's confidence and retake control of the district's finances.

Board members Salazar, Gilbert Serrano, Ruben Archuleta and Herrera voted “yes”, while Board Member Pablo Lujan was the lone “no” vote.
