Holy Cross Confirmation Retreat Brings 200 Youth Together

SANTA CRUZ - On Saturday march 28th over 200 teenagers from throughout the Archdiocese journeyed to the Santa Cruz Catholic Church to participate in the Holy Cross retreat for young adults preparing for their confirmation.
Youth from as far away as Raton, Abiquiu, and Los Alamos attended the retreat. This year's event was the fifth year since the Holy Cross retreat was first organized by local parishioners as a way for local and northern New Mexico youth to attend a retreat closer to home.

Salamon and Sunny Velasquez, two of the retreat organizers explained that the purpose of the retreat is to bring youth from throughout the region together in a positive activity. Later on in the community or in school these youth will have this shared bond. In order to undergo confirmation youth are required to attend two confirmation retreats that educate them on the significance and principles of this step.

This year's Holy Cross retreat adopted the theme "Theology of the Body", an adaptation of writings from Pope John Paul II.
