Some of the topics I write about come to me accidentally, usually as I am researching something else or as I search for something new to learn-whether or not it is on the subject of health.
Recently I discovered an interview between Dr. Mercola and Dr. Jason Fung, a nephrologist who promotes fasting as a healing mechanism for diabetes, high blood pressure and other conditions. The interview was fascinating. Dr. Fung stated that once he implemented fasting into his treatment prescription for patients he saw incredible results.

Overdose Deaths Decline In Rio Arriba

SANTA FE, NM — On Sept 20, the New Mexico Department of Health announced that nearly two-thirds of New Mexico counties saw a decline in overdose deaths last year. The department released county-by-county data, which shows overdose deaths decreased in 20 of 33 counties. Earlier this year, the Department of Health reported a 9 percent decrease in statewide overdose deaths.

Community Discussion On Heroin

Today, Saturday June 25 the Rio Arriba Health Council is hosting a special community gathering for community members who are affected by or concerned about the heroin epidemic in the region.

The meeting kicks off at 9:00 a.m. at the Rio Arriba County Commission offices on Industrial Park Road in Espanola. Lunch is provided and the meeting will go till around 3:00 p.m.

Plague Case In Rio Arriba County Teenager

First Case in New Mexico and the United States in 2016

The New Mexico Department of Health has confirmed a case of plague in a 16-year-old boy from Rio Arriba County who is currently hospitalized.  Confirmatory testing was conducted at the Scientific Laboratory Division. This is the first human case of plague in New Mexico and in the United States this year.

YMCA Teen Center Hosts "Child Abuse Prevention" Event Friday

The Family YMCA run Teen Center in Espanola and several partners will be hosting a special family event for all community members to help prevent child abuse in our communities. 

The event begins at 3 p.m. Friday, April 28 and runs till 8 p.m. 

There will be free food and beverages, a DJ and activities for the whole family
