Desert Sun Motors Sundevils Athlete of The Week

The Valley Daily Post, in cooperation with EVHS Athletics and our sponsor, Desert Sun Motors of Española, is proud to presents the EVHS Athlete of the Week.

This week, Española Valley High School senior Martin Flores is the Desert Sun Motor Sundevils Athlete of the Week.

Martin Flores was one of two EVHS cheerleaders who tried out for the New Mexico State University Cheer Program last weekend. It was an intense two-day tryout process – they competed with athletes from all over the nation, representing their school and community very well. Flores was one of a select handful who made the NMSU cheer team and is this week’s Athlete of the Week.

Anita Gallegos, EVHS Cheer Coach said that Flores joined the Española Valley cheer team with no cheerleading experience. But over the past two years, he dedicated himself to the sport learning cheer, dance, stunting, and tumbling.

At last year’s State Cheerleading competition, Martin watched the New Mexico State University Cheerleaders perform and he set a goal to get onto that college team. This past weekend, Martin achieved that goal. He participated in a rigorous tryout and interview process where he competed with athletes from around the country for 1 of 37 opportunities to cheer on the 2017-18 Co-ed Cheerleading Team.

Coach Gallegos, said of Flores, “Martin distinguishes himself from other student athletes because of his outstanding dedication and passion for his sport.”

His EV cheer family is tremendously proud of him and cannot wait to see him on the field and on the court representing EVHS in that NMSU Crimson and White!

Congratulations Martin, and thank you to Desert Sun Motors for sponsoring the Athlete of the Week!
