Blessing of the Officers Ceremony As Española Valley Fiesta Begins

As part of the kick off for the Española Valley Fiesta, the Fiesta Council held the annual “Blessing of the Officers Ceremony” for all local law enforcement, firefighters, EMT & Paramedics at the Mison y Convento on the Plaza in Española.

Over thirty first responders and law enforcement workers from around the Valley attended, including Santa Clara Pueblo Police and State Police officers. The entire Fiesta Court was on hand to applaud the hard and dangerous work of the Valley’s first-responders.

Father John from the St. John the Baptist Church in Ohkay Owingeh presided over the ceremony, praying with each officer and providing them with a medal of St. Michael.

The Española Valley Fiesta kicked off Thursday and runs through Sunday. See below for a list of events happening at the Española Valley Fiesta:


Friday, July 7

  • 9:00-noon. - Merchant Day w Mariachis at various venues around town
  • 2:30 - Torch runner blessing at the Santuario de Chimayo
  • 4:30 - Vespers at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Española
  • 5:00 - Procession from the church to the Plaza w La Conquistadora
  • 5:30 – Opening Ceremony & Greeting at the Plaza de Española
  • 7:00- Midnight - Gran Baile at the Ohkay Casino Conference Center

Saturday, July 8

  • 10:00 – Saturday Mas at St. John the Baptist Parish in Ohkay Owingeh
  • 11:30 – Kids Parade at the Plaza de Española
  • 2:30 – Llegada de la Reina at the Plaza de Española in the gazebo
  • 2:45 – Entrada de Oñate at Plaza de Española in the gazebo

Sunday, July 9

  • 12:00 – Fiesta Gran Parade, starts at Industrial Park Road and ends at the Plaza
  • 5:00 – Closing ceremony at the Plaza de Española
  • 7:00 – Closing Mass at the Santa Cruz de La Canada church in Santa Cruz
