Bandelier Reopens After Govt. Shutdown Ends

Following the enactment of the continuing resolution, the staff at Bandelier National Monument is happy to be back on duty and welcomes visitors to come and visit the park.  The winter has been very dry, so most trails are open and clear of snow.  A few very determined hikers have gone out overnight backpacking, but the short days and low night temperatures encourage most people to stick to dayhikes. Birdwatchers and photographers are enjoying the quiet days and the low angle of the sunlight.

"It's a good time to visit Bandelier, with this year's mild weather and sunny days" said Park Superintendent Jason Lott.  "It won't be long before the visitation starts to rise again due to spring breaks, so think about coming now when you often feel like you have the park to yourself."

Don't miss the opportunity to get out, take a walk, and enjoy these special places that belong to everyone.
